SVT Timing Belt Change?

I had a zx2, which had the VCT on the exhaust side, I have changed timing belts on the cars with ease, I would rotate everything with the factory belt on to TDC set the bar in the back of the cams, and then remove the belt and re-install the new belt and tighten the adjuster.

My Question is, My SVT will need a belt shortly, my question is, could I rotate it all to TDC set the bar in the back and then remove the belt and re-install the new belt and tighten the adjuster?

If I am reading this correctly, you are assuming the car is on TDC when you turn the engine and lock the cams in place. All this does is make sure that the cams are locked in place. This does not ensure the that #1 piston is actual TDC. You really need to use a crank locking tool. Unlike the ZX2 zetec, the zetec in the SVT is an interference engine.

roll everything to TDC, install peg, install cam locking tool, remove timing belt, then re-install everything.

review the links in mainest's post. They will help explain the procedure. It is also in your best interest to install new timing pulleys as well
