Are you certain you don't see the VALVE COVER gasket leaking oil? Head gasket you'd have to really dig down to see. Imo, maybe you are more concerned than you need to be. That is probably the valve cover you can see leaking, which is no bigee. You gotta swap the housing, check your coil pack for a crack. Check your batt cables. If your zetec actually had a bad HEAD gasket, you would know. It would have blown head gasket symptoms, which, your's doesn't seem to have.

Sorry to hear that, Redhawk. I bought a 2.0L SPI about seven weeks ago. Prior to woning it, I had not done much as far as car repairs -- a few brake jobs, oil and filter changes, that kind of stuff.

My son's car changed all that. I've had to repair a laundry list of things, from replacing the drive belt to replacing the timing belt to replacing the heater hose, the camshaft position sensor to changing out one of the oxygen sensors. You name it, if it was a routine maintenance item, it needed to be done on this car . . . badly.

Got myself a Haynes repair manual, used a lot of google, asked for help here, and watched a lot of Youtube. I've put about $600 in parts into the car; now seems to be running fairly well.

If I can do it, anyone can.
