That's been a good while. I stepped away from Fashion Photography back in January.

My job and life have taken a new twist, and I have changed my aim. But I need to get back into it. Creative Photography that is. I've turned into a drone.

Glad to hear life seems to be going well, although at the risk of becoming bored. :/

I have a good friend who started a graphic design firm on the side along with 3 of her friends and they added me to the team as their go-to photographer in the event they need one. Well the other day she emailed me with 3 paid gigs for help with websites they're building. Leased my first 6 photos to the first guy tonight.

Kind of exciting, but I really need to step up my equipment. I feel it won't be long before I reach my limitations.

Tis true ... but finding that limitation is based on what you shoot.

Sometimes, it's not the best Full Frame Body or the amount of lenses you have. Its the right body, with the right lens in the right situation that keeps your equipment current for your needs.

A friend of mine bought a Nikon D800 last year ... and just sold it a month ago. It's an awesome Full Frame camera from Nikon, it has excellent low-light and color range. So why sell it? Well, for him, he takes photos for sports, and the D800 isn't fast enough and the files are way to large for him to process with in his time frame for his clients. So, back to a Nikon D3s he went. Which worked perfectly. He also doesn't have any Wide lenses, just fast zooms.

So, ... find your sweet spot for what you are shooting and your equipment will last you longer than you expect.

That makes sense. I don't think I need much. Just a good external flash setup, umbrellas and a couple lenses.. I'm thinking an 85mm and some sort of wide angle and zoom lenses. Then I should be set. I'm not looking to have 3 pelican cases full. Just enough to be more comfortable doing gigs that are currently out of my comfort zone.

Right on man ... if you can afford it ... I would look into Alien Bees.

They are a great bang for buck from the beginning. After the Alien Bees, look into the Elinchroms.

If you do outside photography ... stick to flashes with a power of at least 320Ws of power

I do a lot of outside stuff for my automotive side. I'll definitely look into that. Thanks for the heads up. I've been putting it off because I have no idea what's good without being more than I need lol.

Oh great! Thanks! The "Higher Elevation Vacation" gallery is most of my keepers from my Colorado trip. The other few galleries were just to help me get my page started. I still have a lot of work to do on the site and a lot of photo gathering (8 years worth) to do. Regardless, have a look and enjoy. Click on the images to view them larger. I always appreciate a click on the "like" and/or "tweet" buttons at the bottom of the galleries. www.jirelandphoto.com
