new car wont start

Buddy bought an 04 sohc car for 125 bux cuz it wont start. Kid says he came back from an hour trip stopped an put half tank of gas in came back from paying and wouldnt start. So my friend buys it fuel pump runs pats is doing normal blink sequence. And it just turna over and wont start. What ya guys think?

Check to make sure the timing belt hasn't snapped.

Hard to say if it's the fuel pump if we're not there to diagnose it. All you have to do is put a battery in it, turn the key to on, and listen for the fuel pump to buzz for 5 secs.

There are other things that can go wrong with SPI engines that make it completely worthless. This engine is known for dropping valve seats into the cylinder, and typically you have complete engine destruction as a result. That's why the weak 108 hp SPI engine is more expensive than the 172 hp SVT engine in a junkyard- if you can even find one. Some of our members have converted old SPI engine cars to the more reliable, powerful, and inexpensive Zetec engine.

The best thing is that you are the first SPI owner who can't lose. You bought that car for less than it is worth as scrap metal. All you have to do is drop the gas tank, dump it out, find somewhere to store it, and then take the car on a truck to your local recycler. You should be able to double your money. That's a good investment.

I believe this is the 4th or 5th SPI to go at a gas station in the last 12 months including mine.

If its turning over but not cranking i would bet that its the timing belt
