2005 Focus ZX4 Transmission problems

I have a 2005 Ford Focus ZX4 Auto trans. Car has 122,000 miles. Tranny fluid was changed at 100,000 miles.

I was coming home from work one night and got on the gas in first gear the car rev'd up to 4 grand and didn't shift. The O/D light came on and started flashing. I ran my scan tool on the car and it gave me a code which came back to Trans-axle solenoid.

Took the car in and they ran the scan and said yep thats it. $465 later and it's still doing the same thing. The car shifts really hard. They say they see no damage to transmission. They are sending it Ford Monday to get a better scan done.

Any idea's on what it could be? The transmission gave no signs of problems. Just one day and bham I had an issue.

Well, these transmissions are completely controlled by solenoids.

It could be one of the solenoids, the wiring that connects that solenoid to the computer that controls it, or an internal mechanical problem.

Do you know which solenoid(s) were replaced, what the trouble code(s) were?

Looking at the solenoid engagement chart, the only one that changes state during the 1-2 upshift is "shift solenoid D" which goes to full-open.
(if the cart is left in "D", manually upshifting involved solenoids A, B as well) .

I believe it was p0706. The car was in D when this happened. I believe I did try manually shifting from 1 to 2 and had the same problem.

I don't see p0706 on the chart I have, it goes from 0705 right to 0712.

Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Performance
Is what P0706 shows.

However I was talking to another guy last night and he said his fusion had similar problems and it ended up being the speed sensor?

This is past my mechanic skills. However being $500 into the car in a new part that the mechanic thought was problem and isn't, really sucks.
