I got tired of seeing the same aftermarket shifters available for us ATX's, so while sitting in an Escape I had an idea. How about swapping shifers?
After a long weekend of nothing to do, a lot of "encouraging" words with the car, and a lot of modifications... Here it is. An 04 Escape shifter on a 05 Focus.
Yeah, the shaft was shortened.
As far as a part number... can't help ya. This mod cost me nothing. Only thing I can say is check a junk yard first (aint no shame in that) and then maybe a dealership.
You dont have to shorten the shaft, but I like the way it looks shortened.
If you're in any parking lot and happen to see an Escape (that's an ATX) peek in. They're descent little handles.
... and Thanks!
It wont just "bolt on". If you've seen the Focus shifter's allen screw thingy, it's on the side. Well the Escape's is in the front of it. No holes line up. But I got it to work by making a new hole, which is covered by the plastic piece at the bottom.
O/D... i had a button hooked up on the side of the shifter base but I got pissed cuz everytime I fired the car up the O/D was off. I'm going to think of another way to set it up, but for now I have no overdrive button. I am no believer that the button helps in gas mileage.
Looks great. I was looking in an Escape the other week and I was thinking about the same thing.
For the set screw, was it just a matter of drilling a new hole to put the screw into?
O/D Button, did you splice it in and the o/d was off evertime you started your car? If so were the wires crossed?
Shaft size, did the shifter fit snuggly?
Thanks, Kevin.
