Talking New Street/Track Tires on the Way!

Just ordered them from a local shop...in Helena...if you can believe that.
He actually came out cheaper than Discount Tire or Edge Racing.

Sooooooo, by the next event on June 26th, the Contis are gone, and the Hankook R-S2s will be ripping up the track.

Edge Racing Link

I'm going to keep one of the Contis and disect it with my recip saw.
I really want to know how close to the belts I've worn these things down to.

Son-of-a-bachi.
Just went in to get the tires mounted this morning.
Looks like I need to wait another day or two.
The shop ordered the correct tires, but the warehouse shipped these:
http://www.hankooktireusa.com/pdf/uploads/H405.pdf
Needless to say, I was more than a little hacked off this morning.
1) The wife and I revised our schedules, and carpooled in her Escape,
since the fOCUS is up on jackstands right now waiting for the new rubber.
2) I've got an appointment for an alignment tomorrow,
that will have to be changed if they can't get the correct tires here by this afternoon.
3) I'm off on a road trip to the Seattle area Thursday morning,
so I can spend Father's Day with my Dad, and see my brother's new place in Granite Falls.
There's no way I'm driving my Bronco at 8mpg there and back, and leaving the Contis on is not an option.
Two of them are worn below the wear bars, and the other two are not far behind.
If you know how bad the WA State Patrol is,
I'm NOT taking the chance of getting a ticket for improper tread depth.
"When it rains....it pours" Nuts!

I'll probably just end up throwing the winter treads back on for the trip to Seattle and back.
Bummer.
I was really looking forward to breaking the new tires in on the road trip.

And, good Lord, look at what's left of the Contis after 15,549 miles....Not much...
Man, does it look short! Course, it's not mounted, and there's a good bit of tread missing.
The mounted R-S2 comes in right at 24.6" as listed in the specs.
I gained a couple pounds of weight though, since they're 21lbs versus the Conti at 19lbs.
Actually, it only weighs 17lbs now with all that rubber gone.
The new wheel/tire combo comes in at 41lbs.

Sidewall comparison between the winters and the new Hankooks.
Ya know, I really liked that extra amount of sidewall on the recent road trip.
I may opt for some 215/50/16s for daily drivers in the future.

On the car!
Yes, I know it's dirty.
These friggin' thunderstorms every afternoon, combined with our dirt road are not helping.

And the results:
Most outstanding!
These tires are glued to the pavement like I'm running on Contact Cement.
The Contis, as much as I talked them up, never felt like this.
I'm totally stoked to check these things out on the track this Sunday.
Turn in response is "right now"...almost before you even think about it.
In fact I'd venture to call it "twitchy" right now, which is a little hairy, till I get used to it.

I also had a "Road Force" balance done when they were mounted.
How it works
Find one near you
Sweet!
These tires ride as smooth as a baby's behind!
