9006 head unit Question....

I was told by the previous owner that it played Mp3's and WMA's.

I made a mix CD with MP3 and WMA and it played the first track, then it errors.

So.. I made a second CD with only MP3 and it won't play at all.

Any suggestions? Is it designed to play MP3 or WMA???

Thanks,
Brian

Nope, just straight audio. The blaupunkt head unit plays MP3s though.

Oh, and it gets better. Because it is an in dash 6 disc changer, you are essentially screwed if you want an aftermarket solution to play mp3s. Almost all after market adapters use the factory stereo cd changer input. Our stereos don't have them. In order for me to use my iPod in my car, I have to use an FM transmitter (Griffin iTrip). Fortunately, I usually only listen to books, so the drop in sound quality doesn't really bug me too much. If I want to listen to music, well, that's what I have a 6 disc changer for.

Ya, I have an iPod+iTrip and for music, it's not the greatest sound quality, but for books, it'd be fine (even give you that kinda old school scratchy static that we had when some of us were kids).

You can replace the deck with an aftermarket if you want mp3 capability though :)

Yeah, but then you lose the steering wheel stalk, and that's one of the best features. You 'can' get an IR blaster that can simulate the steering wheel stalk (like a learning remote control), but it's not cheap and you have to mount the thing so your stereo can receive instructions.

I have an alpine unit in my Maxima i could install... meh

Who actually uses that steering wheel thing??

This car is tiny compared to my maxima, and the radio itself is right there...

Are people really that lazy? I just change the stuff inbetween shifts.

A better solution to the wireless fm transmitter is a wired fm modulator, wires inline with the antena input. They even have a switch to turn off the antena so you don't have any interference. This is the setup I use for my ipod.

Last question I have for now is.....

Is the 9006 deck internally amplified for the surround speakers?

My Alpine CDA-7995 deck is ampless, and that may become a hassle with wiring if the stock deck is internally amped.

Moving to “Car Audio & Electronics”...

HTPerformance:
Did you buy that unit from someone on this site?
I try to keep an eye on the 9006 Audiophile units in the for-sale section,
but I might have missed the one you got.
They've been advertised more than a few times as being MP3 compatible,
which as you found out, is not the case.
I apologize if that's the case.

I'm 99.9% certain certain the 9006 is internally amped for the front/rear speakers,
but as you probably know, the subwoofer does have it's own amp.
