He has a Twin Turbo Civic!!! who knew?!

Tonight I was hanging out in my dorm room with my buddy when this guy from New York who is known throughout my school as a bser came in. We started talking about cars, he told me that he raced alot but didnt know anything about cars. He then told me what car he had and what was done to it. This part is funny, he told me that he had a Twin Turbo Civic vtec, with an intake and exhaust, that ran an amazing 11 second quarter mile. So i proceeded to tell him that he could take a mclaren... needless to say he tried to dig himself out of the hole, but with no luck. Then the funny part came, we were talking about racing and just to call his bs i asked him if he double clutches when racing... he then dug himself deeper by answering yes after that i asked him if he does it when accelerating... he said yes again. ofcourse... well i am in shock because last time i checked. double clutching was a method of slowing down, i can just see him trying to go from 1st gear straight to 3rd trying to WIN the race. oh well. i pretty much shut him down. OHHH and he said that he found a 1994 RX-7 Twin Turbo in some bushes up in NY before he left, and he went to the county to see if he could have it.... and ofcourse they just let him take it.. sure. ok
this guy is full of it.. thought you guys would find this funny.

i know what double clutching is. its a method of slowing down by skipping a gear but revving so that your rpms match the lower gear. i just said that he would skip gears bc thats essentially what he would do .. thanks for being a dick...

That makes no sense. Why would you call that double clutching? Its just downshifting. Double clutching is a technique used on unsynchronized transmissions to avoid grinding gears. Its basically put in clutch, take out of gear, let up on clutch then put it back in then switch to higher gear. Either way it is totally unnecessary on modern cars. So is skipping 2 gears triple clutching or what?

sry to inform u but i remember readin from a mag that it was done by the older car when the mtx sucked backed then..they would have to go from 1st to neutral.then to 2nd..instead of jus goin to 1st to 2nd.....n last time i knew it..downshifting is when u go from a high gear to a low gear..so how is goin from 1st to 3rd downshifting? hmmm

YOU GUYS NEED TO READ IT RIGHT... i said he told me that he was double clutching when accelerating. you dont double clutch when accelerating ( at least with good trannies ) so i was BEING SARCASTIC.. and its not just for speeding up and slowing down with bad trannies. its also for slowing down from high speeds with perfectly good trannies... so yeah thanks for the response... read it twice next time... MODERN double clutching is this... say your in 4th gear and need to slow down fast... you put the clutch in take it out of 4th put it in neutral then rev to the rpms that match with 2nd gear and then put in the clutch quickly and put it into 2nd and since you reved in neutral youll match the rpms in 2nd all that in order to slow down faster (oxymoron, slow down faster) without killing your brakes. thanks again robert and focuzdriver ...im not sayin anyone does it.. im sayin thats what double clutching is. look it up . i was merely calling his bluff because no one would do that when racing. its like saying hey when racing do you check your engine oil.???? except for the fact that he doesnt know what double clutching is.. IT WAS A FUNNY STORY DONT CRITIQUE EVERYTHING..

Actually, that reminds me. it could be used for downshifting as well for an unsynchronized transmission as well. Does the same thing except make it match the speed of the lower gear instead of the higher one.

focuszdriver
You basically said the exact same thing i said. shifting from lower gear to neutral, then the next one.
Wow!!! 1st to 3rd isnt downshifting??? Man, im glad you're here to tell us these things. Thank you captain obvious. wtf?
