Unhappy Air Bag light won't go off

Yesterday while i was in idle my air bag light came on and now it won't go off. I read in my manual that i need to have it serviced immediately. But why will it not go off. Could it inflate at any given moment or is it just not working? I really don't have to the money to be trying to figure out what's up with it. I really don't want to go to the dealer for this one.

the light is on showing that there is a fault in your SRS. I would have it serviced. For your own safety.
