Hand Brake Cover Removal

Quick question, has anyone been able to remove their hand brake cover? I've tried pulling it off and prying it off but nothing. Id like to pain it since it has faded in the sun but I obviously cant paint it while it's still attached. I can remove the boot but the plastic cover on the handle just wont come off.

Any help is appreciated!

It's a PITA, the first one I took off I broke, the second came off with the center console. I think it just snaps in to the console, be careful it is real fragile.

Correct. I removed my console to paint it it does slide off EASILY when you remove the console. Once it is off, you can go underneath there and unsnap it. It can be broken without much effort so careful.

I feel the best way to grab is is by taking out the center console. It is very easy to remove the console (three screws for me: one in each front cup holder and one in back). Pull the e-brake as far back as possible and I had to put my stick shift in neutral and unsnap the shifter boot. Feed the shifter boot through the hole as you pull it [the center console] up. Took about two minutes and that was just to unscrew the three screws.

Hope that helps. It's worth the trouble to remove the console, imo.

Goodluck!

I have been planning to remove the console to pain it as well, also some fading. The previous owner did not care for this car. Anyways, I'll give that a try. Thanks guys!
