svt dog bone engine mount

ok guys, whats the deal with these, how many mounts need changing, is it a diy jobbie for a lad with some experience???

what tools are required??

It is not hard to change that. I strongly recommend taking the old dog bone part, pressing out the rubber inserts and pressing in and using urethane inserts to re-use the dog bone. I am very pleased with the improvement in my SVT with that change. It went from a little loose and strange on small sharp bumps to feeling much more solid. You will feel a little vibration at idle but all other rpm ranges are like normal with a improved sense of control in the front. This change has been, for the money spent, the most dramatic improvement in my SVT in the 10th Anniversary updates I have been doing.

15 mm socket, 13 mm socket, I think + torque wrench, a vise or hydraulic press to change out the bushing inserts in the dog bone. You will need a jack with a wooden spacer for the oil pan (to prevent damage) to jack up the motor a bit to wiggle the dog bone around when removing and mounting it.

where are the dog bone mounts located, and witch one needs changing??? has anyone got any pics??

If you use a ramp or jack up the car and use jack stands it is easy to get to the lower motor mount. It is in the middle of the car, roughly, at the back edge of the oil pan and engine area. I made a point to remove the bracket on the engine side when I was ready to install the renewed mount with the urethane inserts and that made it easy to thread the front bolt into the mount. We are calling it a dog bone because of the funny shape. If you have not seen one yet look on the web for a Focus lower motor mount photo. The large end connects to the chassis and the small end to the bracket on the motor side.

This is a good improvement for your car.

Just instead of replacing the entire mount you can replace the old inserts with poly ones then put the mount back in.

installed it today, cfm one, the car seems to buzz a bit when you hit the trottle in first, anyone else notice a bit more vibration??
