I will never complain about MFT again.

So, I spent my birthday in Las Vegas this past week. I was supposed to get a Ford Fusion rental but ended up with a 2013 Chevy Malibu. I was not at all impressed with the car but least of all was the Chevy MyStink (I mean MyLink).

This system is very poorly designed and navigating the menus is quite cumbersome. However, the worst trait of all is the fact that it just fails 50% of the time. It would not read the music collection of the three different Android phones (M8, S4 and Note2) plugged in via USB. It would just sit at the point of indexing and never progress any further. Bluetooth would either not update the song information or kept cutting in and out during playback. The only thing that worked well was the built-in Pandora support.

Based on this, and my experiences with MFT, My Ford Touch is a far greater system and designed for a much more intuitive experience. I have had some issues with MFT but none of them were nearly as bad as what I experienced with the MyStink in this Malibu. I am not saying this with any bias toward Ford. It is simply out of the frustrating experience I had over the last week. I ended up just listening to FM radio (yuck) because of it.

LOL yet Ford gets trashed for MFT. I too wonder about this. I also recently read an article where Edmunds trashed the the 2013 MKZ interior as being cheap.

I often complain about my 2003's MFT system. SYNC never works! (sarcasm)

I may be a little late in posting but I like the MFT on my 2013 Focus Titanium....never had problems, all updates went well, and love the technology behind it....of course, I am somewhat tech savvy....being a IT professional.

I like MFT but it has its glitches. They have mostly been resolved in the latest update though. I have had the blank screen issue more than once. I have also experienced the reindexing issue.

I am an IT Pro with 24 years of experience and I determined my problems only occur when using USB flash drives and NAV at the same time. Since the last update I haven't had any problems.

These pale in comparison to what was going on with the Malibu.

FMT is probably one of the best systems I have seen so far (or tied with CUE). Chevy's MyLink is just terrible. To the point I really wonder how much QA testing it went through, and who made the final decision of "I know it doesnt work, but it NEEDS to roll out in September" In fact the only GM system that Ive thought worked ok was the Cadillac CUE system.

However the single worst tech system in any car I have ever experienced is the Mercedes COMMAND. It just flat out doesn't work, almost ever. It will randomly unsync with your phone, it will randomly forget its settings, it randomly refuses to recognize music, it almost never recognizes voice commands (maybe 2 out of 10 times will it recognize voice commands) The fact that Mercedes ever put it out is amazing. The shocking part is I experienced it on a 2010 S class...the flagship car... and it didnt work from week 1. How can an MB salesman demo a car with a system that doesnt work in front of a customer? I suspect heavily that their salesman gloss over the COMMAND system as quickly as possible and hope no one ever asks for a demo of it.

Read about Mercedes/BMW systems being a nightmare to try to use for years before such systems were tried on less expensive cars. By now in their third generation you don't see the complaints in reviews like you did when they were new, and just being able to say it existed was a selling point.
