Agreed, there is no escape. The larger point is that Google has the most technical skill and a huge dependency on user watching in their business model, so they'll be the ones doing the most to bring connected experiences to the car.

Other car companies like Mercedes and BMW use the QNX system.

It is not official yet that Ford has or is going to move to the QNX system. It is being considered at the moment only, along with other options, per intercompany communications. The media really ran with this one.

Can I just say, I have UConnect on my Charger RT+... The voice controls are such crap. Just like every other voice activated infotainment/nav system I've used (other than Sync)...

The big question is whether or not owners of earlier vehicles will be able to upgrade to the new system. It's acceptable that a person might have to change phones or even computers to be able to use a new OS, but changing a car is a bit of a financial burden. The new Sync will be much more acceptable if it is able to be installed on old vehicles.
