What are the chances of the ECU being bad in the first place? How is your mechanic so sure that it's the problem?

I am suffering from car flu. I have just bought an Ecm and my car still will not fire. All relays checked and fuses good. With my old ecm I got just dashes on odomiter with new one I got a mileage reading but still won't fire. Also with new ecm my gauges freaked out. My security light go nuts when I turn key to start. What's up now?

Replacement ECU won't work without keys that already match it, or having your existing keys programmed into it - that's why the security light "goes nuts".

Gauges will do a reset sweep when cluster or ECU is changed, that part should be normal.

Last one I saw here with the dashes in the odo. that was an ECU issue - the problem was a bad ground at the ground wires to the inner fender near the battery. You've checked fuses, try grounds next.

Luck

When my 2004 lx computer went out. I went to junk yard and picked up new computer. Ford had to reprogram it though.
