Great post. I spent many years in the car business and I was good at spotting damage on cars....as long as they weren't my cars I could be objective. But when I buy a new car for myself, I get caught up in the excitement just like anybody else and I am blinded by the new car experience. For the same reason you should not act as your own attorney, a car guy should not inspect his own car. I always take a friend with me to pick up a new car who has no interest in the car and is trained to spot problems.

Two pair of eyes are better than one at spotting damage so always take a friend with you.
