Need some help with cooling fan failure (not focus related)

Have a 98 Nissan Maxima and the cooling fans are not turning on, and the car will overheat. I've checked the relays and fuses and everything seems to check out. Need help asap, and thanks guys.

I'm asking because the Nissan people are no help and I usually get help here. I'm loyal! Lol

Don't know if that one is old enough to have a separate sensor switch that USED to be the normal way to turn cooling fans on & off.

Look for one on the radiator first, then check for TWO by the thermostat if you don't find one at the radiator. Two by the thermostat, one is for the idiot light & the other for the fans.

Single wire is typical for sensor, two wire if you find it would be typical for a fan switch sensor.

Generic info. of typical older systems MIGHT help.

Luck

Do the fans come on with the a/c? All cars have the fans come on with the a/c this should tell you if they are working.

It's probably something simple. We used to have a Infiniti I30 (same as the Maxima). Those cars are dead reliable, but something stupid small can bring them down. We had problems with the coolant temp sensor freaking out. It would cause the car to stall and die but was a simple fix once we figured it out.

I'd add a seperate relay tied to the ignition to get them working temporarily (maybe permanent) until you can track down the problem.

test fans with jumper wires directly to battery

if they work I would replace the coolant temperature switch
it should look something like this
if you unplug this single wire and ground it the fan should start
