Roof weight limit?

I have a 2001 SE and was wondering if it would be possible to transport a ~130 pound couch, wouldn't be for more than 10 miles at the very most (no interstate).

I have roof racks which have a capacity of 150 so it should be fine on that end, but I could not find any information on the car's limit after scouring the owner's manual. Any help is appreciated!

Would also love to hear of anyone else carrying a sofa/couch on their Focus!

I think you are fine as far as the weight is concerned; I believe the manufacturers of the roof rack took into consideration what your roof can safely hold weigh wise. Now how the couch will behave with the cross wind and how well you can secure it, no idea.

The roof of my 03 LX supported my fat rear end for longer than a 10 mile drive should take, and I way slightly more than 130 lbs....

Weight should not be a problem, but make sure you your tie down straps can hold the weight firmly in place, including possible wind, as rambleon pointed out.

Now Im not suggesting anyone should be carrying a massive amount of weight on the roof, and I'm not considering a couch massive. But I believe car roofs are required by law to be able to support the weight of the car in case of a roll over.

Just sayin.'

Moving outsized non aerodynamic objects with small econocars is problematic at best. Be sure and secure the load with quality clothes line, duct tape, wire coat hangers, bungee cords, or just mount it to the roof with deck screws. DO NOT exceed 120 MPH while moving your cargo, and be sure a dress stylishly like the guy in the photo! BTW: That's a custom one off '06 Afghani Focus!
