Mike, Well done! You could have swapped #1 and #4 wires at the coil, they fire at the same time (wasted sparK), yes the cat overheated because of the unburned fuel being burned in the cat instead. Mine had about 115,000 on it, I put new bearings in but the old ones looked virtually unworn - a testament to how good the Ford iron block is, so your old oil pump should be fine. I lightly honed the cylinders and used new pistons and rings. And of course new front and rear seals. I tried a rebuilt head and had intake seat problems in less than 1,000 miles and ended up getting a new casting from my machinist for $350 - no problems, should have done that in the first place. For the dipstick tube, mine was broken flush, I used a punch to push it down and got a new one from the Ford dealer (in stock!) and later broke the dipstick itself and had to order that. Now it runs great, cheap to run, fun to drive, slow but good handling and great brakes. Enjoy! Bob Scates, Springfield, VA
