Hmmm...
It just occurred to me that we're dealing with a TPMS here as well.
Is the installed TPMS calibrated to the OEM tire size?
If I go to 15 inch rims, is it necessary to install new TPMS transmitters all around or can I live without them?

Never mind, I just found this discussion:

TPMS is not really needed. You can absolutely drive without them. In fact I do all summer long. I was not going to pay $300 or whatever it was extra when it's really easy to see if your tires are low. The only thing you'll get is a CEL and a message in the dash display. You can but the reset button to clear the message, but the light will stay on. It flashes for a minute or so and then stays solid.

Does anyone have pics of a 205/50r16 and a 205/55r16 for a visual comparison?

You really won't be able to tell much difference.

A 205/50R16 tire will have a sidewall height of 4.035 inches. (take the 205, convert it from millimeters to inches, and multiply it by .50).

A 205/55R16 will have a sidewall height of 4.4385 inches.

It's about a half inch higher/lower depending on which one you pick.
