Based on a lack of sales for the three door models in the previous generation of Focus in Europe the company decided it was best not to pursue the market for a 3 door C segment automobile. Since they dropped it for Europe they weren't going to build one just for the U.S.

I'd much rather see the wagon here than the space inefficient 3-door coupe anyway.

Only the b segment (Fiesta, etc) sell in large volumes in Europe as a 3-door hatch, the C segment needs to be a more practical family car and the 3-door just doesn't cut it.

"Space inefficient 3-door coupe"

I've hauled some pretty good sized loads in my 3-door SVT.

I'm hoping you're wrong but if you're not then Ford can definitely rule me out as a future customer because I just don't want a 4-door! I've driven the new ST and I was impressed but not when I got out and saw those 4 doors. I'll either be keeping my SVT for a very long time or switching brands. Right now if I was in the market I would be looking at a John Cooper Mini or the new Golf GTI or RS.

Given the fact that coupes are seen as less practical, and having the longer doors makes it harder for passengers to get in the back, yes it's not considered practical.

Even if the interior volume is the same as the 5 door it's less accessible with fewer doors. The longer doors also make it more difficult in a parking lot situation.

The 5 door hatchback is much more practical, especially when it's combined with a longer body shell compared to the 3 door.

To each his or her own, but the sales figures in Europe didn't justify the continued existence of a slow selling 3 door model. It was not face lifted with the mid cycle action on the C1 platform that underpinned the C307 Focus /ST/RS as well as the current C346 Focus and Focus ST.

I'm sure you'd appreciate this:

Enjoy your three door car while Ford enjoys making money by finally selling a performance 5 door hatch that's a world beater.

well I like the new Shelby but agree with you about the central exhaust on the back. I enjoy the carbon fiber look of the yellow one I think it makes it look clean seats could use to be the Recaros always a nice upgrade and I imagine for the price point this will be at an expected upgrade.all in all very much like the st. Models not much change in exterior look in my opinion I expected a little more flair

Dude my 2002 SVT Focus has 291,000+ miles and only have had to change the oil( only use the motorcraft 5w20 and a filter with a check valve in it) until I neglected it and blew the head gasket at 280,000. The cylinders still had the cross hatch marks and no ridge from the rings. I studded the block and it running stronger then ever... I just wish someone could tell me it's true Horse Power from the factory.. Considering I use to work at a ford dealership and know the 170 HP they say isn't correct... But on another note it love the new ST's but couldn't come close to get one....

They claimed on my model 35mpg highway and I somehow surpassed that to 42mpg highway on a misfire on the number 1 cylinder driving out to California. If they claim it gets 40mpg then it has to. Everyone's definition of driving like a grandma is different. I know some grandma's that can't keep the gas pedal off the floor board i.e my very own grandmother.
The ST's engine is not the same as your '07 and is rated at 29 highway and about 22 city, so claiming that this Shelby version gets 40 is a bit hard to believe. Additionally, the ST has a economy shift indicator that pretty much tells you to shift at about 2100rpm unless you're going up hill or accelerating hard. So his "driving like a grandma" likely means that he was following that shift indicator as close as he could.

I hope this helps you understand our disbelief.
