Clutch replacement - Mechanic's Words

Hi all, I'm a new member to the site and owning a Focus and require some assistance.

2004 Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec (3-door, last 3-door focus if I'm correct)

Whats brought me here is the recent failure of my clutch. I was driving along and all of a sudden in-between a standard 4th to 3rd gear change the car wouldn't get into gear until I rev matched. Prior to this gear changes were sometimes clunky. To begin with it seemed like just a clutch cable problem, but further research (and then the mechanic) informed me that it's a hydraulic clutch. I left it with him and he called me later telling me the clutch needed replacing.

The confusing part for me was the next part. He said that there was 4 different possibilities that could be in the car and that he couldn't tell which until it was pulled apart. He then went on to tell me that the the four different parts all had different prices with fitted prices of AU$995, AU$1150, AU$1250 and the final one was AU$2950. He went on to elaborate that the more expensive option had a different mechanic to first three where the flywheel and pressure(pads? discs?) were all incorporated. So I've told him to take it apart and call me before he orders the part, because it needs to be fixed.

I want to know if this sounds about right and that the price hop from the different models seems reasonable. I'm just praying that it isn't the 3K hit!

Cheers in advance!!

If I were guessing.... And I am just guessing.

Clutch and Flywheel Resurface
Clutch, Flywheel Resurface, Throwout Bearing
And..... New Transmission

I would just call and ask him exactly what each price covers. But that all sounds costly especially if he's charging you for labor in addition to those prices.
Where we're going we don't need roads.

They are all including labor, so he has to determine what work needs to be done in their before he can give me a correct quote? Wouldn't he be able to determine if the transmission is bung before he gets deep into the car?

Yeah, I'll def give him a call tomorrow for a recap. Any key things I should ask about? Cheers

Here in the US there would be 2

1) Clutch Disc and Psi Plate

2) Clutch Disc , Psi plate , Fly Wheel

I would do some calling around and get your own prices and parts
