It depends on the type of service you are performing. At my dealership, we use BG products. So, I've got a dual tank (fuel rail and high pressure spray nozzle) and spray it at the throttle body. I take the intake tube loose just before the throttle body, insert the nozzle and reattach the tube. Then, I let the vehicle warm up before I start spraying.
As for using a can with a tap or "seafoam," you could take the vacuum line off the brake booster and run it that way. You won't have much vacuum at the breather hose connection since it's before the throttle body. If you can find a vacuum line after the throttle body, then that should do the trick. I haven't heard of anything involving the exhaust manifold.
