2008 Ford Focus Se Stick shift Revs help

So i have been asking around and no one seems to know the answer to my question, so i decided to ask the pros here.
I have a 2008 ford focus se stick shift, with stock engine. I just want to know how many revolutions can i do before i switch gears without hurting the engine? Right now i change at 2k or 2.3k. Pretty much i want to know how high i can go in each gear before changing?

Well I have an automatic and if I am on it, it will go up to around 7 grand before shifting

damn,if you are shifting at 2,000,that's almost lugging the engine(shifting to soon). Not sure about 2008,but my 2005 has a rev limiter somewhere over 6,000 rpms. I usually shift between 2500-3500 unless I am pulling into traffic or coming off an exit ramp. I do occasionally hammer it in every gear except fifth just to make sure everything is working as it should.

If driving on public roads 2-3K would be suitable times to shift, if you are at the track you can wind her up to 6800 RPM's.

My red lining starts at around 6400, ive been told that because its a 4 cyl i should take it easy and not go over 4k, but ive hear some people once in a while go up to the start of the red line just to make sure the car is good? Also, how high can first gear go?

If you shift too high you'll wear out the clutch faster. Shift below 2k and you'll start to lug the engine.

2k is fine. That's when the shift light comes on anyway. Shifting around 2k will be really smooth if you're easy on the gas pedal. So if you're concerned about fuel economy and smooth shifting, lower is better.

I usually shift around 3k because if I need to accelerate quickly for any reason I'll only need to downshift once to be in the powerband.

Good answers already, low to mid rpm range for everyday use depending on how much accel. is needed & run it hard on occasion to give it some exercise.

Shift before redline & you're OK, engine doesn't know what gear it's in.

Doesn't even hurt to run it to the limiter once just so you know where it is & what happens when you hit it, it's something you don't want to make a habit of doing but knowing about it can help.

Downshifting too far is what to avoid, if you're going fast in one gear & shift down to a lower one the engine will over rev when you let out the clutch. There's no protection against mechanically forcing it to rev. too fast. It's easy to figure out what will work, just pay attention to the difference in RPM between gears. For example, if you shift up at 3,000 and the next gear starts at 2,000 there's a 1,000 rpm difference between the gears. So if you're at 5,000 and the red line is 6,000 you're right at the edge for a downshift, any faster and you'd go over red line with a down shift. That gives you a rough idea, you want to avoid pushing the limits in that situation.

Be careful when you do your redline (up) shifting, I've noticed my engine spin past the Rev limiter a few times when i disengage the clutch.

Supposedly, the hard limit for a stock duratec is 7200 (rev limiter at 650p for my 09 manual) as any higher the valves float. Someone else should probably confirm that before you believe it because i haven't messed with the valve train on mine so I'm not an expert.

I still kick redline on occassion. Stock engine. Hair over 120k on the odo. Fully synthetic 5w30 oil since first oil change. Oil changes @ every 5k
