Now i've got a new issue.. lol I got the reverse lockout removed. That was crazy simple. And you would think that the replacement of the shift knob itself would be simple as well.. but i've screwed that part up, apparently. My GF got me a shift knob, but i'm not really seeing how this is supposed to be installed.

The hole in it is way too large and there are no threads. There are screws that look like they're meant to hold to something on the inside, but they plastic adapters that same with it only sit on top of the shift rod. They don't make it over it entirely. or are those supposed to screw onto the shift rod threads to enlarge that and the knob screwed into the adapters? If that's the case, then the adapters are too large.. I have no clue. The instructions that came with it are a bit on the ambiguous side.

Sorry to jump back into this thread, but I definitely need another knob... last week it was like 100 degrees here and the knob my GF got me is aluminum.. lmao couldn't actually drive till I sat with AC on for like 15 minutes to cool it off before I could grab it. Lol

I did some searching and found mention that the thread on these cars is 10m x 1.5.. I found a few on eBay, but they say they're for Honda and Acura
They also mention the 10 x 1.5 , but when I put 2001 Ford focus into the compatibility section, it says it won't fit. Doesn't anyone know if this is the correct thread size or know what the correct size is? These universal ones move around too much for my liking.

The thread you need for the Focus is m12x1.25. Whatever you read that said m10x1.5 is wrong.

This /\

I like this one, came stock on the 05-07 ST.

It's leather so you dont have to worry about the heat which if its 100 degrees outside, your car's interior can easily get much hotter than that. I have Steeda's short shifter which has an aluminum piece where the lock out would be, it gets plenty hot too!

Cool. Anything I find on eBay still says it won't fit with that size.. so.. I guess I'll just ignore it. Lol thank you for correcting me. Didn't want to get the wrong one.

Is there a how to thread that goes over how to remove just the knob for a mk1? or even the whole knob and reverse lockout?

I was messing with my shifter a little bit and I think if you just take out the spring the aftermarket knob will work, but since mine broke before I could try it out( don't buy the blue stitched/ metal black one from WalMart) I will have to wait till I can find some super glue and reattach the 2 pieces to find out
