Oil temp gauge reading dead cold

Of course, it's cold outside. But even at normal engine operating temp, my oil temp gauge needle hardly moves off rock bottom - if it even moves at all. Usually it rides up around the halfway point on the sweep, but this is a new development with these sub-zero temps.

Coolant temp is normal, heat comes up as expected. Oil levels and oil pressure are normal. It's just the temp reading that is wonky.

Could this be as simple as just a problem with the sender? If so, where is the oil temp sender located? I assume it's near the oil cooler, but I've never looked, and I'd like to know before I climb under there in zero-degree weather.

Thanks!

Tbh I think from what I have seen on the forum, those 2 guages are dummy guages and dont actually represent the true temp or pressure of the oil. But I may be wrong...

Oil temp gauge reading dead cold

Fair enough; but something is apparently not functioning correctly all of a sudden, so I'm wondering what it is.

I suppose there's a chance the thermostat is stuck open and the coolant temp is lower than normal.
