Price for SVT needing clutch

Hey guys,

I was looking at a rather clean SVT that the current owner says will need a clutch soon. 2003 with 77k miles. What's a good price to pay for it? I know that a clutch job will run me around $1500 or so.

How much is he selling the car for? Also has he done the timing belt yet because it would be 15k before that needs to get done, definitely things to think about.

if the 90k service hasn't been done yet the car won't be worth much.

Timing belt hasn't been done either; I forgot to mention that. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable paying more than 3 with the work that needs to be done.

Just how good of shape is the paint and interior/exterior in? Is it an EAP, can't remember if those were 04 only.
3 would be close to top dollar in my opinion. I just sold my 03 with major new OEM parts on the motor, moderate paint condition for 4 at 122k miles.

If this guy is the original owner I'd honestly ask him for all of receipts of any work he has done to the car. If he has kept track of all the work then that means its been taken care of. Also check the tires if they look worn there goes another 500-700 bucks off the price. I'm pretty sure it snows over where you live so ask him if he is giving you a set of winter tires/wheels with that aswell. If it seems the owner doesn't know much about his car and doesn't have a single receipt of any work done then I wouldn't bother. Unless you get it for a great price, give it another look over and ask him if you can drive the car and have your mechanic look at it.

He's the second owner, and says its been !maintained but he has no record of the timing belt being done. Clutch just started slipping a week ago. I haven't looked at it yet because its two hours away, but he claims its one of the nicer ones in the area. It is hard to find decent ones around here. Its not an EAP.

Never mind, he said he's getting the clutch and timing belt replaced. We'll see where to go from there.

Good luck man, definitely give it a good drive or ride around if you go see it. Chances are if the duders driving and babying the car, there's something wrong with the suspension.

Just make sure you check out every possible thing, hell get underneath it if you can.

They're frigging great cars when you maintain them and give them all the require. But they do tend to require. =D
