With 5K+ miles on the odo and occasional bouts of boost, I’m getting a pretty consistent 21 mpg in my mixed daily commute, and 28.5 mpg on open highways. Both have improved over new as the drivetrain nears fully-broken in. However, I’m bothered by the rapid-buildup of soot in my exhaust tips and a bit of rough idle/throttle transition running, and think I’m running a little rich.

My dealer swears that Ford’s engineers are working on an ECU reflash to improve both mileage and combustion smoothness, but hasn’t given me an availability date yet, so we’ll see…either way, I’d like to see the Euro fuel tanks available here as an option, as I nearly match my ST’s range with my 1984 BMW R100RT’s six gallon tank.

I removed the tune and mileage went .. DOWN by a couple MPG . Put a stage 3 on 91 octane and now get over 28 with mostly hiway driving . Almost 6000 miles , two oil changes , 3" catted down pipe , 3" stealth exhaust , cold air intake , Cobb intercooler , short throw shifter . With careful grinding I removed the stock exhaust tip and installed it over the 4" tips then spot welded it on for a stealthy stock appearance . It is a little blackened but not an issue .
