Looking at a 2001 Sedan

Hey guys, so on Tuesday I am going to be going and seeing a 2001 Ford Focus Sedan ZTS with 130,000 miles on it for my sister. It is an auto (she doesnt like stick). Besides the SOHC (I wont let her buy it if it has this motor) what other things should I look for? I've had a wagon and now my SVT but have no experience with the sedans. I know to ask about the timing belt, and if their is clunking in the front end to try and rattle the swaybar end links and some other stuff, but what else should i look at/ask? Thanks in advance!

They are pretty much the same as your wagon except for having a trunk, so the things that applied to your wagon apply here as well.

Okay, but I only had do do end links, struts and springs, valve cover gasket, and a couple other things when I owned the wagon. I want to be able to go and look for specific things, like with the SVT I felt the clutch pedal for moisture, rattled the end links, etc. I want to hear stuff like that.

A lot of things you can't tell when it's going to go until it actually starts going. Take the car for a test drive; if there's any clunking, you know that something in the suspension is worn out. You can even go so far as jacking the car up and making sure there's no unwanted movement of the wheels. If there the engine has any oil on it, you'll probably have an oil leak somewhere. It's all the basic stuff that you'll need to look at and the rest is a case of wait and see if/when it goes.

Obviously though, ask what's has recently been replaced on the car such as suspension bits, plugs, belts, pumps, etc.

The ZTS never came with the SPI (SOHC)

Just FYI: I generally agree with avoiding the SOHC, but if the head has been replaced, it is a very reliable motor. I would not recommend buying one with the original head, unless it was immediately replaced.
