Question on your switch fix as I will be replacing tomorrow on a 02 ZTS. Did you only have to push in the 2 tabs to remove the top cover or is there more involved. Shop manual is very vague.

thanks,

On mine there where 4. two close to the front of the cover and two near the back almost inside the dash.
I have tilt steering in mine. I suspect it might be different if you don't.
This is a super easy job man. You will get it. the only tools I used was my key to push in the tabs. Getting the switch out was kinda tricky but only because my hands where just kinda' too big to get in there.

That is a possibility, you will get more answers if you start your own thread about the subject though. This thread has been answered, and problem solved.

The best way to determine what is happening with the high beams is to use an electrical tester to see if the coil wire is energized when the high beams are turned on. That will tell you if the problem is on the dash side or the headlight side of the relay. The coil pins will be the small pins.

First post.

I have the same problem, no low beams and fogs. Changed a relay, nothing. Changed the turn signal switch, FIXED!!! I'm stoked as I bought this car two days ago with 120k miles for $2400. Fixing the lights is one of the few things I need to get this car back to safe running conditions. Wish I knew about autozone stocking this part, I had ordered a new one online so Friday I'll return the ordered unit to autozone.

Just thought I'd share my story and success as well.

Thanks, I fixed mine with switch replace. OEM Ford shop manual has a lot of detailed diagnostics for the focus. Look online and you can get a used copy fairly cheap. Watch out for water leak on pass side cowl panel. (It takes butyl rubber windshield sealer tape to fix)

Thumbs up New turn signal/dimmer combo switch fixed it for me, too!!

Thank you for posting in this thread, it has saved me a lot of grief.

2003 Focus. Fog lights stopped working a couple of years ago. Recently, the headlights (low beam) also stopped working, but high beams were fine. Checked bulbs, fuses and relays and all were fine. Based on this post, I figured then that it had to be this switch or I otherwise had a wiring issue.
Crossed my fingers and ordered a new Turn/Dimmer combo switch (the one on the left side of the steering column) from RockAuto.com for less than $21, plus $5 shipping.
It was very easy to take out the old one and install the new. There are a couple of very helpful YouTube videos on this.

Long story short, this has fixed my low-beams AND my fog lights and all is well with the world.

And I had just the week before done a DIY repair for another common Focus problem, which is the Shift [A] Solenoid in the transmission (P0750 error). It causes the transmission to slip out of gear and the engine just revs when overdrive is engaged, which it is by default. Luckily, it is an inexpensive fix if you DIY, just about $40 for the solenoid and another ~ $40 for a new filter, some Mercon V and a gasket/sealant. If you have not had this issue, I am betting that you will, which is the reason why I mention it here. DO NOT PANIC, it is a fairly simple fix and there are also good videos specifically about it on YouTube. If you can replace an oil pan, you can fix this....now I have done both in the past 3 months.

Thanks again. This post and the replies has really helped me. Wanted to concur with the others about the dimmer switch fixing the problem. Cheap and easy.
