A Sylvania incandescent 6418 has the same output as a 3 LED bulb from SuperBright LEDs or Sylvania's own LED 6418; 45 lumens. The only reason the LED looks brighter is the cooler temperature which makes the light look more white and natural.

If anything, LEDs in fittings not designed for them are dimmer, because the brightness on LEDs has a lot to do with direction, making them require a lens that was designed for LEDs to get the most light out of them. Not to mention the fact that their light output is actually lower than incandescent bulbs, making it extremely difficult to get an LED to exceed the light output of a incandescent bulb the same housings, as most of them simply don't have the depth or size to cram a bulb with that many LEDs into them.

I do agree with HIDs in a stock housing being bad though, along with a lot of people who have improperly aimed headlights which are just as bad.
