HELP, anyone I need a techie even if you have an idea LMK!

Has anyone successfully gotten recorded programs off the cisco u verse boxes onto their computer, I heard it was encrypted or something but I also heard it could be done via rca cables. What I want to do is install a tv tuner card and record it to one of my 3 external hard drives, I mean I have an idea of where to start I think you can use a S video cable......Also does the nvidia gtx 650 support a tv tuner because I already have an external video card other then the one on the mother board? I dont know if it's got s video on it.

It's usually protected. You could probably buy a gaming DVR and use that to record. You would basically have to play back what you recorded on your U-Verse DVR and let the gaming DVR record it. Then your PC will be able to access the video on the gaming DVR.

Something like this.. CLICK

I've actually thought about finding out myself. Just have to wait till I cancel my u-verse to open it up and remove the hard drive. I do imagine what mix1983 said is true, but I would like to know for sure.

I can't offer a possible solution but can offer some information as far as encryption goes. I did some digging around a while ago because I was looking into doing something similar. With enough persistence and pestering Cisco tech support I finally got past the tech support level of "idiots reading back answers from FAQ lists on their computer screen" and to the next tier and a guy that actually knew something. According to him they don't natively build the boxes to be encrypted but features such as that (along with a lot of other things) are added to the middleware that is based on the carrier's specifications. I have a Cisco through Time-Warner and they require it so mine is encrypted. He told me all of the large domestic carriers require it but a lot of international ones in certain regions do not.

Of course there is always a way around something but it just didn't mean enough to me to pursue it any further.....

I have solved it, it was an easy fix I got an external tuner called the hauuppauge I ran it from the uverse reciever via RGB and one video RCA and then from the external box to the computer via USB it works awesomely!!! so I can record it on one of my three external drives :)
