New Head and Engine Rebuild - crank won't turn

I'm working on a 2003 Focus that had a dropped valve seat. 3 of 4 pistons destroyed, head destroyed, and one piston had it's skirts broken off. Ordered a rebuilt head, and got cylinder honed. Got the engine all back together and I can manually turn the crank. As soon as I attach the engine onto the transmission spline, I am no longer able to turn the crank manually...

Any ideas?

Have the car in neutral. Do all the electrical components and everything else have to be hooked up to be able to turn the crank manually?

I'm at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
