Question MFT troubleshooting

Yes, I've read most of the sticky MFT thread.

My 2012 SEL was delivered with 2.11, and I've been enduring it rather than upgrading - until now.

As of Friday afternoon, the system could no longer connect via bluetooth to my phone and the touch screen went wonky [touching a virtual button may do nothing, or it may take you to an unrelated screen]. The radio still works, and the Sync system response to voice command [complaining there is not a connected phone for Services and other voice related commands]

I've tried 'delayed reboot', fuse pulls [67 and 79] and even disconnecting the battery. No changes to the system's behavior.

This does not seem to be 'bit rot' in the 2.11 software - is it likely that the APIM is dead?

I guess it can't hurt too much to try that first - any new hardware would come with 3.6.2 anyway

Hey, TheOldBear,

I suggest taking it to your dealership before updating to v3.6.2. It doesn't sound software related to me, but they can diagnose and fix the issue for you.

I second this motion. That's what updates are for. In partic some have addressed BT issues.

Rebecca
I've made an appointment with my usual dealer for next Tuesday.

The service writer says that there is a recall concerning the issue, so their first action will be the MFT lobotomy [3.6.2]

On the other hand, I was able to re-pair my phone [hit the physical sound button, get to the sound settings page, click on the climate corner, get to the add a bluetooth device page, enter the displayed code in my phone].

Most of the time the phone connects, but puts up a '911 assist is off' dialog box, with no on screen way to clear it - just hit the physical sound button, go to the sound settings page, and press the 'menu' virtual button and go to the default home page.

If the phone doesn't connect, I have found no way to connect it without restarting the car.

Many voice commands work, including voice dialing of numbers from the phone.

If the phone is connected a voice command for 'services', MFT displays 'success' in the lower left without attempting dialing. When a phone is not connected there is audio prompt saying 'synch is trying to connect to a previously paired phone'

Let me know how it goes. Just for the record, there is not a recall on MFT; it's just an update. :)

The only recall I found on the NTSB site that might apply to this car is the one about bad seals on the windshield wiper harness.
