Duratec RWD

Is it possible to mount the D20's or D25's in RWD configuration? I'm very curious. I've just finished rewiring a Triumph Spitfire that had a GM 2.8 installed. I know the original Triumph engine is tiny by comparison to any Dtech, however it also has craptacular performance. Likewise, I don't consider the GM60V6 to be a beast either, and I'm sure the Dtecs weigh about a passenger less.

He's sort of stuck with a truck transmission anyway due to the shifter location, so he might as well have a better motor.

Yes the Caterham Duratec uses a rear drive and there are a few Bell housings for diff trans

you da moron..... notice I didn't ask about a D23. The D20 and D25 are only used by Ford in FWD. I was more concerned about bolting motor mounts to it. Any of these engines is going to be an upgrade in performance and weigh less than the craptacular 2.8 carb motor that is in there. I bugged him about that from day one... why would someone swap out the 4 cyl for the V6 that only has 10 more hp? Then put it behind a truck transmission in a sports car. I didn't ask if he bought the car from someone in Utah.



Thanks Tom... I found Quad4Rods too. Have any of the Caterham guys whose cars you worked on used carbs?

No all of them used the ITB`s , I think somewhere I saw a carb manifold for the early Ranger
Wouldnt be hard to make one ,

Quad for Rods makes a side draft manifold for 2 DCOE's, but holy cow they want a pretty penny for it. He'd be about $1800 or so into it with all things considered. IIRC Cosworth only wanted like $2500 for an ITB setup with a standalone ECU. Someone could weld up a manifold for a 4160 or an Edelbrock 500 for that much- sheesh.

The 2.8 is so crammed in there that there's not even a top on the air cleaner- the hood seals it up! I think any of the EFI manifolds will fit, but no go on any other manifold + carb. The guy who wired it didn't wire the fans with a relay, diode, or temp switch, then bypassed the ignition relay so all the power goes through the ignition switch. It died. On an interesting note- it has an electric heater according to the wiring diagram I found online for Spitfires.

If I go over there this weekend I'll make some measurements to see if a Dtec would even fit. I assume the 2.5's are the same length as the other I4's if those fit in the same vehicles. I'm guessing that any of the Dtecs might be too tall.
