Hi guys, new member here.
I don't have ton's of time to spend on forums, but can at least log in once per week, sometimes more than that for an hour or so. If I breech forum etiquette, please inform me as this is not my day job and apart from doing research I am more of just an email kind of guy.
That said, I have a 2009 Focus SE I purchased brand new. Has 82k on it and things are starting to wear. I will attempt to briefly identify the things which have caught my attention.
Engine mount, pass. has a thick black oil ring around it. I assume bad.
Does EnergySuspension have a HyperFlex kit for this car, or do people have to piecemeal the parts? Looking at upgrading the sway bars, and getting tower bars. Clicking noise upfront associated with wheel travel. I assume end link.
Took car in to Ford to have plugs/wires, oil, trans, and PS replaced. Oil was good, trans began to slip after I got it back and PS was whining because techs did not prime pump or completely fill. Topped both off with lucas... seems to have fixed.
Loss of power. I dont know where to start. Horrible in the mountains, sluggish elsewhere. Power was surprising when I purchased it, but within the last year it has steadily declined. Seeing as how it is 80+k I would think about a possible chain tensioner, but it seems early. I would like to know from the pro's what tends to happen with these things around that timeframe. No codes. Possibly dirty sensors (MAF)? Have K&N AF.
Have a grease sling on Driver side fender.
My plans: as suspension is shot, upgrade suspension, new half shafts, probably bearings- once wheels started shaking I was unable to get realigned, end-links are mandatory. Ultimately I want to completely refresh the chassis/suspension/drivetrain setup. Looking for good-quality suspension to go with eibach springs, probably pro. Need info on setup to keep camber and toe in line with new suspension, want to do it right.
Mods, apart from turbo and after I have refreshed the drivetrain, what sorts of things might I do to put that pep back in her step?
Looking at upgrading the headlights to the HID projector setup, and adding the fog lights.
I am interested to hear if anyone has added the aftermarket SYNC and how it measures up to the stock version.
Looking to add an appropriate interior lighting system, if anyone has already done this, I would like to hear of it.
I am looking to keep this car forever, a notion not commonly held, that said I would like to inquire about swapping the auto for a manual. Has anyone done this, and how much am I likely to spend?
Not exactly brief, and at the end of the day I understand that this is a Focus and a Sedan. That said, I want to customize this car to myself as much as possible and let it continue to be a joy to drive. When I want a race car, I will buy one.
Thanks in advance,

Boris

your plans sound good, just don't get ebay projectors. get some real ones, or retrofit your existing headlights with projectors from theretrofitsource.com. Get the suspension done right, and she should last you awhile. just because it's only a focus, doesn't mean it can't be yours

I appreciate the advice caleb, do you have any recco's on suspension? It seems like it is easiest to get struts for the 05 and earlier, next the 05-08, and lastly 08-11. I understand there is a kit to put 05-earlier struts on the 08-11, and the 05-08 and 08-11 are plug and play as long as you get matching springs. Is this accurate, and what might a good strut be in combination with the eibach springs? I understand some come with the appropriate hats to adjust camber.
Has anyone put an energy suspension kit on the 08-11 focus? I can't seem to find one.
Lastly my DS exterior door handle seems to have seized, could that be solved by externally applying lube to the mechanism, or are we talking about removing trim panels?
