Third Tail Light

Guys, My third brake light is out and I'm trying to change it. I went to O'Reilly's and they told me I might have to buy the entire third taillight but upon looking online of other cars.. seems like they just changed the little bulbs inside. How does this work for the Focus? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Gimme a sec. I have a spare I'll check to see if those are replaceable.

It is an LED assembly on the hatch, I don't suspect it would be much different for the sedan. It is therefore not user serviceable other than as an assembly.

I took mine apart to check on its nature. It's a thin circuit board with leds soldered in. You would have to desolder them but most likely a resistor or diode burned out. Good luck trying to find the correct one and putting it in. You gotta buy one from Ford unfortunately. Good luck

If the whole LED assy is out, I would suspect a wiring problem and not burned out LEDs.
Before you go buy another third light assy check to see if power is getting to that spot.
More than likely it is not the LED assy.

I have a brand new one for sale in the classifieds. Bought the wrong one (I wanted an ST light), so just FYI if you do need the complete assembly and don't want to pay retail for one.

What is your mileage?

That is likely covered under the 3 year/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty since it is not a bulb but a circuit board assembly that only comes with the third light assembly.

Manual says it's covered along with the license plate lights.
