Smile Escort Mk1 project

Hi guys, im new to this so im sorry if i do some mistakes. If something is not right please correct me

im doing an escort mk1 project and i need to decide on an engine. I was told that the zetec engine is a good engine when comparing its price to a YB cosworth engine.

I have searched about the zetec engine and have found that in the long run a blacktop is better as reliability, etc.. And in performance difference i prefer owning a newer engine, what do you think?

I have found two engines one of which is a 1.6l naturally aspirated silver top and the other one is a turbocharged black top. I do not know the CC of the black top but somewhere on the web i have read that the black top versions are either 1.8l or 2.0l.
Is this true? And how will i know what engine? For-instance if its a zetec-R or some other model?

Thanks a lot guys any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are so many Zetecs...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zetec

On the block somewhere you should have a number, it should be on the exhaust side beside the exause/header/catalytic. right next to the bell housing their should be an engine code/serial number.

Here is a thread explaining the serial numbers in great detail:

http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=93401

As an added bonus somewhere on the block their should be something like 2.0 or 1.8 stamped somewhere...

Of course we do not have serial or engine codes in the US Zetecs because we only have 2.0s so our only question is whether it's a zetec or not...
