shifter push rod broke?

Hey guys and gals, I've been searching for 2 hours trying to find out what's wrong with my automatic 2003 focus SE . Sooooooo basically this past month my car has been doing the "lights are on" door chime even with my key out and no lights on. I realized my key was not going to the OFF position, and was staying in ON/ACC (I forget which is which). So after vigorous reading, one of the most plausible solutions was my car wasnt "thinking" I was in park, and I had something blocking my shifter from going to full park. Well my OD wire was the culprit (after taking the console out I noticed it).
So I just cut the b** wire and BOOM, instant success. The gear shifter would slide and shift flawlessly, then somehow I pulled the entire gear shifter out. Im not sure if the screw on the side was gone or what, but the whole d thing is pulled up and out, including the gear acuator rod(?). Ya know that thingy rod that goes into the linkage thingy that makes you be able to shift from P to D. Now, this forum is great, and I have a lot more knowledge than when I first started, BUT is it possible my rod thingy is broken??? Like, right now my gear shifter is completely out and I cant force it down onto the rod thingy to shift. The rod thingy doesnt seem to want to push down at all, even when I just attempt to leave the rod in the housing and use my hand to push down on it.
Confusing explanation, sorry. Long story, thank you all in advance for any help.
