got the suspension almost completely put back.

However found the following things:

1. Tie Rod Ends - Need new ones (MOOG so will lifetime warranty)
2. The plastic boot that goes on the steering input to the rack that seals against the body... accidentally left it off. so steering rack is coming off so that can go on.
3. Pinch Bolts need to be replaced (driver side has rusted so bad the metal has necked down).

then it will be time to put the wheels on and push it out for a good wash next weekend and a drive way alignment so when its drive able on its own power I can take it to the shop for an alignment.

Oh.... I may have my car running by then........

I need to drop the head off at the machine shop tomorrow. Bottom end will be built and assembled this weekend. If I am out there it will be with temporary plates as I break in the motor and get all the emission and sensor stuff on line.

Not sure... I have not taken it there yet. Was going to take it to Hunter Machine Shop ( http://www.huntermachine.com/ ). Larry Carpenter of Carpenter Motor Sports who builds and provides track sport for Spec Miatas works with them. They have a list price on a website of $400 for complete assembly.

I was hoping to work with them and with it being a referral I might get a little bit of a better price.

I just want to shave 10 mil of the head and do a valve job. The head has already been disassembled except for the valve steam seals (have new ones already). I have new Crowers springs and retainers to be installed.

When it says complete assembly I am not sure if that also means they will check all the tolerances and make adjustments as needed install the cam caps and get it ready to "drop in"

$40 to clean and check for cracks
$225 for 16 valve, valve job
$50 Surfacing
$128 for valve guide install

That $443 but the Complete assembly (which I would assume includes all the above) is $400.

Never having worked on a head what all is needed for the focus head? I am using stock cams, I have numbered the caps to know exactly where they go back. I can install the valve springs and retainers my self. So I mostly just need the Shave, clean, and valve job, and removal and install of new valve seals.

I did not realize the hidden cost in what might cost me in the buckets to set the cam adjustment / "valve lash". I hope I can get a way with using my stock ones after the valve job.

I want to rebuild the Miata.. I feel like it's down on power, hell it has 178k miles. I've never done engine work like this.. It doesn't seem TOO hard. I'm rebuilding it to stock spec(per SCCA rules) but not sure if I want to take on the job..

A rebuild will likely work. I have no experience with Hunter Machine shop but do know Larry through association and he has built a fair number of these cars and he uses Hunter for his engine / machine work so they likely know what they need to do to keep it in spec. a lot of it boils down to how much are you willing to pay to have the mechanic tolerance it that .001" more or 0.0005" more just to get you that 1 or 2 HP out of the motor.

Got the parts in the back of the jeep. going to drive over there after a morning meeting I have.
