BBK 65mm TB

I have been reading through the posts on the TB and need a bit more info. It looks as though the FC throttlebody needed a little work and had some sticking issues. Has anyone had the same experience with the BBK TB? I understand that I will have to do an ECU reset after install, but will I need to Flash the ECU and raise the idle or will it run smooth on factory setting for my 2.0l Zetec? Thanks for any help

Have not had any issues. the idle is controlled by the IAC valve and I think part of the problem with the FC ones is the gasket was not the best or did not always align up and caused problems. Just pull the battery cable do the install, and them put power back on and turn her on.

should not have any issues or require any other special care.

The car should relearn everything quickly. the ECU also updates regularly so even after driving 40-50 miles the car will have relearned most everything it needs.

I've got a new/unused BBK for sale cheap... see for sale section if you don't already have one in mind.

No ECU flash necessary. Idle will be adjusted by the IAC valve after the ECU reset.

If you do happen to run into a sticking throttle it can usually be rectified by adjusting the throttle stop slightly to keep the plate from sticking to the throttle body surface.

Have you thought about port matching the intake to the throttle body? Makes a big difference once you have the intake manifold opening matched to the 65mm throttle opening.

Thanks for the help gents.

@GhostTribute Yes I am going to port match the TB to the mani.

@Pb-foot: Sorry, I already purchased my TB before right before I became an FF member.

You can remove a fair amount of material. take it slow, its plastic.

What I showed I needed to remove:

Post porting (ignore the gray stuff):

Those light grey spots, is that JB weld/epoxy for filler?

I didn't even think of doing that. I just took my intake out to 65mm and used a flat fiber gasket. That seems to be holding so far.

Filling the IM and sanding it down flat would be a good way to take if out even further than 65mm... I'll have to remember that if I end up going with a larger TB. Thanks!

It is JB weld. I don't think its necessary for my application. I have the Focus-Central TB and the gasket is a full paper gasket. I did it for just in case really... not sure it will do anything. I just had some JB weld I wanted to use up and thought why not.

its sanded down to be smooth surface. there are some bubble spots which had a shake table or something I could have used to get the air bubbles out.

Have yet to put it on my car and see how it works though.

I had done it a # of times. first time perhaps 30-45 min. I can now do it in less than 1/2 that. Its all knowing about where the bolts are. You will need to pull a stud (i chose to pull both, just makes it easier) and you need an inverted torque star for that (cant recall the size).
