Well since I just recently figured out I'm not the only one who has yet to find a solution, I just might give it a good go. Let you all know in a few days.

Wagon Roof Rack Removal.

Can I re-start this thread and ask few questions about roof rack removal.

Does any one know how much does the regular roof rack, the one with the screws, weight? Do I have to remove the headliner to get to any bolts or does the rack just screw right off through the torx screws in the roof? I am trying to avoid having to pull the headliner, if possible.

I know this post is old but there is no good answer......until now

I recently removed the roof rack from my 2001 se wagon. First off let me state that the first two years of the Focus have a different style rack. Unlike later models these are fastened under the headliner. The hardest part of getting to these fasteners is removing the oh.. handles. If you pull the handle down you will see there is a part of the handle that can be popped open. Under that is a long hole. You will see if you use a flash light that there is a metal clip at the end of this hole that is attached at two sides. A long skinny pick of screw driver seemed to work best (with some light pulling). Remove the sun visor .You also have to remove all the trim around the headliner . It all comes off with light pulling. There are two push pins at the rear of the liner. Once you have all of this done the liner should be adequately loose to access the six 10mm nuts that hold the rack on the roof. If you wish to totally remove the liner all that's left holding it at this point is the two interior lights. I will close in saying you will have 6 1" holes that will need to be sealed/covered. It will not be something a few push pins will cover as a heard stated early in this thread. I used 6 rubber plugs to seal these holes from my local true value hardware store. Elevator bolds painted and sealed with silicone will probably be my long term solution and look much cleaner. Hope this helps.
