Cheap and Easy Manual Shifter Bushing Fix

I searched the FF forum and could not find an easy solution to fix the cable shifter bushing problem on the 2000 to 2004 SPI manual transmission. So I came up with one on my own. The manual trans shifter in my Focus was very sloppy between gears. I removed the cover on the trans and found the bushing was missing from the end of the shifter cable. Ford will not sell you a replacement bushing. You have to buy the shifter cable set and it isn't cheap. Plus, it is a pain to replace.
With the linkage cover off, I noticed that shifter cable end looked like the shifter cable from a Dodge Neon. The Neon suffers from the same problem when the bushings harden and then fall apart. The solution on the Neon is called Booger Bushings. The website for ordering these bushings is: http://www.boogerracing.com/boogerbushings.html
I ordered a set that included a small and a large bushing because I wasn't sure which one would fit. The two bushing set costs $12 and that includes shipping. I used the small bushing and it fits perfectly. Just put a little grease on the linkage shaft and snap the bushing in place. Now the shifts are nice and crisp with no sloppiness. Plus, they come in an array of colors. Happy motoring!

Somebody with more knowledge than I regarding which trans is used by the SPI engine will have to chime in for that answer.

No, the SPI had the IB5 transmission.
