I've had the FSWerks on for 3 years, and no issues ever. I get all the weather here in Chi-town, and haven't had any problems. Drive through snow=fine, rain=fine, tornado/driving rain=fine, 4" water, no issues. I did leave the shield on though, I would imagine running without that cover would create more problems.

yes, i have an AEM CAI on my D20 and i don't have a splash shield, if you run a CAI without the splash shield you need to be extremely careful about deep water it will suck it right up, even just heavy rain is enough to make it start bogging down if you get the filter wet enough i've been dealing with this problem for years. i've put an extra 90 degree angle pipe on the end of my CAI to kick the filter up and behind the headlight about 2 years ago and since then i have much less problems since the filter is higher up behind the driver side headlight and in between the fender, however now that it is in that position if you drive through deep enough water it will trap the water in the bottom of the pipe since it is now effectively piped like a water trap in an air system, i have only had this problem once though since i angled the filter up higher and that was about 2 years ago when i had no choice but to go through about 8" of water one night
