2002 Focus ZX3 base shift plate

Hey everyone!

I'm new to focus fanatics and have just acquired my first focus. its a 2002 zx3 2dr with the 2.0L Zetec. The problem I'm having has been addressed here in other posts (specifically, the Base shift plate). However, I cannot find the part anywhere despite there being plenty of DIY threads about the issue. long-story short, its cracked in like 3-5 different places (ill attach pictures). SO it needs to be replaced, but I've been reading posts with people saying that it can be replaced with a metal part, which will forever resolve the problem.

If anyone here can direct me to where to purchase either the plastic or metal piece to fix this issue, I would be greatly appreciative!

update!

I found this link to a ford parts vendor, and have narrowed the search down to the 7220 part I believe. My question is what is the difference between the three different 7220 parts? Its the same part with the exception of the part number ending in GA, BA, or MA.

ANY AND ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED! :D

The MTX75 transmission shift tower assembly changed mid-year 2002, and I believe that is why you are showing different parts. The third part is for the IB5 transmission that you don't have. A good parts counter should be able to find the correct one if you give them your VIN or transmission tag #.

If you use fordparts.com, the 7220 parts seem to be specified by trans tag #.

Sweet

Thanks for the help! by chance do you know if the mid year change was due to the crappy design? or a more minor change to it?

A minor change, but I'm not sure what the nature of the change was. I have a 2001 ZX3 w/MTX75 that has had no issues with the shift tower for 130,000 miles... Usually cracks & breaks in the tower are due to hard shifting.

I hear ya

Yea I just bought this dark blue 2002 zx3 w/ 149k miles. I didn't actually notice it was cracked until I got home and couldn't get the car to shift into reverse. I Pulled off the shift boot and saw that someone had tried to repair the cracks with spray adhesive -_-... I suppose the previous owner was rough with his shifts.

Long story long - I buy the part and he installs it (its a cheap part anyway). On a side note I can still get into reverse as long as I wedge a piece of cardboard :P

No kidding. Someone needs an introduction to Devcon 2-ton epoxy.

Looks like the old style shift base to me. If it truely is go find a junkyard contour and swap in the metal base from it.

I have this "old style" base also. Is the 2001 shifter is compatible with the Contour metal base?

Sorry for the slightly off-topic...
