questions about Duratec engine

Hi all,
I'm shopping for a 2012-2014 Focus hatch and would like
info on the engine/car:
1. Timing belt or chain?
2. interference engine?
3. any issues with this engine? (I've dealt with the dropped valve seats
in my 2002 Focus SOHC engine!!)
4. real world fuel economy with an automatic?
5. Do all models come with the digital input to the sound system to play
external player? If so, where is it located (glove compartment?)
6. Any other info you could add would be appreciated.
thanks

Hello,
1. timing chain
2. still an interference engine
3. 5000 miles on my 13 se and no problems so far.
4. in in flat Florida, I get 25 in city and 37 (regular 87), 40 (super 91) on highway
5. USB & 1/8" aux plug in center arm rest
6. other then a weak rear engine mount, I have no other complaints. I did change the mount with the electric focus mount... much better..

There is plenty of info on this site... enjoy..

1. Thank God, the only reason I bought this car is that we snapped a belt in our other one.
2. Chain, who cares?
3. Just turned 10K on mine, runs like a top. Its usually the transmission that people bitch about on this site.
4. I've averaged about 35 combined so far, and I live in a mountain valley, with a manual. You should be able to do better than that.
5. What he said.
6. To people not used to GDI engines, it sounds like it rattles on startup, but that's normal. Quiet on the inside. Throttle response isn't the best I've ever had, which makes hill starts in the manual a little difficult, but in the auto you shouldn't need to worry about that.

Turned 30k on mine, no problems with the engine yet. I use premium fuel. get 1-2 mpg more and a bit better response versus 87 octane.

None that I've herd of.

All I know is, make sure you test drive that auto real good...

Depends on trim (and possibly year.) Some have it in the console, some only have an aux plug in the glove box.
6. Any other info you could add would be appreciated.
thanks
Mine has been great! It's an mtx, and I've had it for a year and a half, and over 47K hard miles.

the engine mounts (rmm) is too damn soft, if you have the mtx you'll hear the engine slamming into the cross member going into second. $38 fix, E-focus torque mount. perfect handling for an econobox, faster than its competition (cruze/dart(even te 1.4 turbo is only viewed in the rear view mirror (on a track of course))). I suggest against getting an auto until some reviews of the new 5 spd DCT or 2014 gets the + or -
