Tyler-I was wondering what happened to your rally effort.

I check from time to time online for any info/entries/results, but I hear you have been busy with work.

If you need any help wrenching or just want to meet up-let me know.

As-you know I live in Simi(and work in Westlake Village).

Hope your rally effort is advancing.....

Mike
Thanks for the support! I have been way busy with work. I only have one day to spend on the car every week or two; so progress is slow. I've spent the past couple years rebuilding the car. Now it has a built NA D2.3 and I've taken a good bit of weight out of the car from different areas. I'll put up a little show/build thread when I get the car back in action.
Thank you for the offer to help out! I'll let you know next time I take the car out.

Sounds good.
I'm really trying to find a good local practice area.
On dirty impreza some of the guys have hit up cal city and hungry valley for practice.

Wish there was something closer but I suppose one of those would do.
I feel seat time on dirt will help me so much more than any mods I can do.
Not sure where you test but I'd love to join you for some gravel testing.

Could you get me the exact specs on your springs? I'd like an identical setup. along with KYB or Koni Yellows. I'm building my stage rally car but I'd like to rally cross it in the mean time

I ordered them from coil spring specialties...here's the ordering link:

http://www.coilsprings.com/request_q...px?type=sports

I only ordered the fronts -haven't replaced the rears .

The svt coils I have in the rear are ok, but if I were to order the rears I'd bump the rate up (from svt rate)about 30% and + 1/2" height.

As far as my front spring specs..I filled in all the ordering info including -25 lbs in front for my lightweight battery, and the stock 2004 ZX3 front spring part #'s I got from Steve at Tousley(now at tasca)and then told them +1" height and +50% rate.
If i were to order again I would probably go +3/4" or maybe even +1/2" as i do top out on the street with my struts dialed down to soft sometimes.

On course at full stiff I really don't notice this though...I love the set-up.

Just make sure you are accurate with the info and specs for YOUR CAR.

They quoted me about $250.00 for just the fronts plus shipping IIRC.

They came in a few weeks.

I'm glad I bought them, but I had probably 85-90% of their performance on course with the front svt coils and spacers that I ran for most of the year.

Just when the course got rutted I'd bottom sometimes.

Anyway..if you are saving for higher end suspension for stage rally and want a budget friendly set-up for rallyx,my front svt coils and spacers are still available for sale as seen in this thread:

Edit:the spacers have been sold

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=327517

And they are in fine shape..only ran the coils on the street for a couple years and the coils and spacers in a few rallyx's.

Oh and if you are going to buy struts/shocks for rallyx-don't buy koni's.

They are a fine strut for tarmac applications and i have yellows on our Mazda3.

But check any source-they don't like the rough stuff-I.E. dirt.

I went with the HTS/dspecs,but the kyb agx's are the go to default rallyx strut for most, and I would opt for those over the Koni for rallyx.

So a little late on the updates here...but we did our final 2013 event at Glen Helen in December..and speaking of batteries dying.. between the water and the cold, well this event kinda did in my pc680 battery.

It was a 2 day event-Saturday practice..Sunday race.

Rain in the forecast for Saturday Practice.

Rain was an understatement.

Practice day was...pointless.
And miserable.

I have a pathetic camcorder vid of one of my runs ..but haven't uploaded it yet.

There was so much water and mud on the course that if you were 2wd you just pretty much wanted to make it through the course without getting stuck.

No speed involved.

I ran the course 3 times.

As I pulled to the start line for the 4th run-it was announced that practice was cancelled-I had the last run.

The concern was a relatively wide land bridge that we cross on the back stretch of the course.
The culvert running under it was plugged with debris, making the water back up and cover the course.

If someone didn't know where the bridge was, things could get deep in a hurry!

On my last run, my car almost didn't make it-the back stretch was deep and I barely made it through with the car sputtering, but it didn't die.

I pulled to the side of the course and finally it cleared itself and ran ok.

I was pretty worried about my Cosworth CAI in that deep water, but the filter is still boxed in by fender liners and the other plastic panels so i was hoping that it would take a little time for water to fill in there.

A steeda short ram would of been appropriate that day...

I probably had wet electrics-I dunno, but car ran fine after.

Sunday A.M.-race day.

Hey it cleared up!

And it's cold!

Wow..my car barely started..wonder if the water affected it?(besides the cold temp).

Drive to event ..get teched.

A couple run groups have run and the course is drying out nicely.

No water truck needed of course.

Time to start my car and run-nope..jumper cable time!

I've already won my SCCA class as of the last race at this point,so I'm not too surprised the VR6 Golf didn't show, but a bit disappointed.

I'd like at least a solid 5 running each eventin my class,if not more..but my other main competitor Jason sat this one out in his Miata too.

So just me and a 88 Corolla FX running in prepared.

Course was excellent and I felt "on" this day-was sorry not really any competition to compete against.

Well,we placed first again so another 1st place trophy, and dog tag, and the prize pool payout check for the year for first place Prepared 2wd.

Not a huge check for my underrepresented class ,but I'll take it!

Sorry-no pics video of the Focus this time... :(

Some pics of other cars there..these appear to been taken on the drier second day:

Hmm..can anyone imagine why blue tape is covering the front plate on this Sonic?

Ok well maybe a couple crappy cell phone pics of a pic of my car running this season-you'll see what they are from in my next post:

So first a rant...to the SoCal Focus owners....Where the HELL are you guys?

The last time there was another Focus besides me running The Socal rallyx series was May.

David, who runs a black Focus Coupe in Modified 2wd ,tore his car apart to build a stage rally car after the May race.

So good for him BUT.....

Since then..I've not only been the only one to represent the Focus, but ANY Ford at any of the events!

I think we had a rental F150 at Ridgecrest earlier this year, and a couple stage-prepped escorts at the Glen Helen March race.

Other than that, and the aforementioned black Focus, NO FORDS of any kind have showed....:( but me....

Afraid to thrash on your car or get dirty?...aww.....no excuse!

Well if your car is clean-yeah..ok excuse...but no excuse not to show up in a nice Fiesta or Focus rental!

We've had F150's, Patriots,Sonic's,Caddy SRX awd's,Mazda2's, and more show up and do well....all rentals!

Better yet, find a nice cheap Craigslist beater Focus to flog,or maybe an escort.

ZX2 2 door escorts are lighter than the Focus and they are Zetec powered and do really well in Rallyx.
And on craigslist if you look around a bit..people are almost giving them away...

Ok..off rant.

................................

So pretty happy with my first year of rallyx.

After driving my Focus since 2005 as a daily, and quite a few "spirited" twisty runs and a couple autox's ,at the beginning of the year I thought I had this fwd handling thing down.

When I hit that first rally school in Feb last year i realized-oh that's right-I have no FWD dirt experience! Duh!

I grew up sliding Dodge Dart's and pickups on our local fireroads, so felt somewhat competent in a rwd in dirt.

FWD dirt was and is still a bit of a learning curve...but fun!

So anyway I showed up to EVERY CRS(California Rally Series)rallyx event and EVERY SCCA rallyx event in our region this year.

I placed well enough to win my Prepared 2wd Class Championship in SCCA-Calclub region this year!

............

My trophy:

......................

As a surprise, at the awards banquet, I won the Porterfield Rookie of the year award-my trophy:

In the CRS championship, there is no prepared class-just stock and rally(open) classes.

I'm in the rally class-we got 2nd place out of 21 cars.

And a really nice trophy with my car on it!

And CRS also does an overallchampionship- irrespective of class 2wd/4wd/open or stock.

We got 3rd overall out of 40 cars!

Another nice plaque:

...........................

So anyway guys,
check the schedules/websites at:

http://www.calclubrallyx.com/

http://www.californiarallyseries.com/

and the CRS and SCCA forums here:

http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=18

for 2014 event info.

Even if you don't show up to drive, come on out-catch a ride with me or one of the other 2wd or awd drivers if you want to see what it's all about!

I plan to stay in prep class for 2014(maybe Mod class in 2015),so I'll be out there, and I'll update here..or better yet continue in the Rally forum here....
