i would say get the 5 speed since it's a helluva lot more fun than the 4 speed auto thats optional, but since it's for your wife not sure how she'd feel about that. mine doesn't have the mileage as others in this thread but so far mine has only needed a new clutch spring, throttle position sensor, ambient lighting module, sway bar end link and other stuff i can't think of. nothing really serious.

No offense but I would be kicking the crap out of myself if I bough an 08-2011 with the 4 speed auto instead of the MTX-75.

Given what I've seen around here I'm a lucky guy. My wife is hoping whatever we get her is a manual! I taught her to drive stick about 8 months ago on an old '97 Ranger and she loved it. Then when we got the MK3 she decided she doesn't like autos any more at all. :P

The car is a great car. I know Auto seems out but the auto in this car is so perfectly smooth. I haven't had any issues at all @62000 miles on an 09. Interior is fine in the SES models at least.

135,000 miles and no complaints. a pair of front stabilizer end links which went out at 50k then a battery after i repeatedly drained it from leaving the key on. still on the factory brakes and clutch even after beating it around the track. im just now starting to see some wear on the interior- some of the steering wheel buttons are bleeding some light and my leather seat bottom is starting to wrinkle. a very well put together car

These were the last years for the c170 chassis and ford definetly got it right. if you can find a 2011 with a manual you hit the jackpot.

Wow, and I was impressed by having 90k on the factory brakes. I was wondering how long they would last.

But yeah, 90k on my '09. Only needed a sway bar end link, battery and an APIM(covered under warranty). Pretty solid little car, your wife will definitely like it better than her Cobalt.

I have 69,000 miles on my 10. Ive had very few issues. All I have had replaced was the valve that controls the switching of the climate control. It got stuck on defrost, wouldnt change to anything else lol and I just had to order a new washer fluid nozzle as its spraying water under the hood. I've had other issues but they all related to my tinkering and modifications so if you leave it stock you shouldnt have any issues with it other than minor stuff.

Ah yes, a battery too lol. But thats it. I believe my battery was doomed from the start because my amp use to be ghetto rigged on a toggle switch and it would run the car dead if not turned off. That has since been fixed have no fears and run the right way. So pretty reliable cars for sure. And I see the same thing with the brakes, I'm still on my original set too. I've noticed my brakes are pulsing bad now though so I guess its time to change rotors which I find odd but pads are still good.

I've a mk2 06plate. It's in the garage throwing no codes(it won't start) lol. Was a great drive though. My mate bought the new Astra and preferred my old focus
