I still haven't done the snorkel delete, but the K&N alone made quite a difference.

Sent from my HTC One using FF Mobile 4.

This is exactly how I feel after I did the mod. It gives it way better driveability. I've used K and N's on all my cars and this is by far the most improvement I have seen from installing one. I did both the snorkel and the filter at the same time so I don't know which contributed more but by the sounds of it, I think it is probably the filter that gives that improvement.

Anyone put some sort of screen on the intake hole behind the grill now that it is a large hole facing the front of the car? Even if stuff gets in there it isn't going in the engine but I figure it would be a good way to keep the airbox clean and avoid any large debris, bugs etc. I'm thinking something like screen door mesh.

That's something that's been done with the newmission mod. I don't see why you could do that if you wanted to try and find a good way to do it though.

I just use an Outerwears prefilter around my K&N. It's water repellant, keeps debris larger than .005" like bugs, etc. out of the pleats and it just falls to the bottom of the box. I just brush off the prefilter and vacuum out the box occasionally. It beats having to dig bugs out of the pleats with a brush each time you service the filter! It is easier to clean than mesh over the intake hole, and probably won't restrict the air as much either.

I did the K&N swap a month ago with my SEL with the auto tranny. I agree, the throttle responce from idle is amazing and now the traction control actually has to turn itself on (if I accelerate too quickly).

My MPGs before K&N were: 23-28city (A/C on and off), 36-38MPGs A/C off and 34-35MPGs A/C on.

My MPGs with the auto, A/C on and cruising above 70+mph (keeping up with/setting the pace for the fast lane of traffic on long trips) with the K&N filter increased from to a consistent 36-38mpg.

When I hyper-miled the car around the rural roads around my home and work I got 40-42mpg (long way home versus the most direct route) (A/C on and off)

I'm a believe in the K&N drop in filter. That is the only mod I've done so far.

ive notice the same. biggest difference is the sound. im runnin with the flap removed, itg filter(off a older fs werks intake), silencer removed and box lid removed. my L/100 went up. was around 8-9L/100 around city and small highway. now i average around 7.5-8. throttle respond went up a bit aswell. Also running 91 at the time. havent tested with 94 yet.

That's the route I would go. Putting a screen over the tubes *could* lead to them getting clogged over time. The Outerwears ensure that the tubes stay free of debris and keeps junk out of the filter.
