The stupid usually stay stupid. They never let information get in the way of a bad, uninformed decision.

Here's something to keep in mind too.

The P in front of the tire size does actually mean something.

Here's a break down -

P215/55R16 Standard load max psi. - 44
psi. where max load is met - 35
215/55R16 Standard load max psi. - 44
psi. where max load is met - 36

P215/55R16 XL rated max psi. - 50
psi. where max load is met - 41
215/55R16 XL rated max psi. - 51
psi where max load is met - 42

Basically a P-Metric tire can't hold as much as a Euro Metric tire, and after you reach whatever psi. the max load it met at you're just giving yourself a stiffer ride or changing the handling characteristics of the tire.

This article explains a bit too - Tire Specs Explained: Maximum Inflation Pressure - the max inflation stuff is more important when you are upgrading your wheel size and going with a low profile tire, and usually only comes into importance with bigger vehicles, but I thought I would throw my name into the hat and get some info out there.

Max tire pressure 51
Then use PSI at 40-42
This is 80% of the max tire pressure
